If you’re like many people in their 30s or 40s, chances are you don’t live near your parents or don’t meet them that often.
And if you are part of the people who meet with close family for Christmas or important birthdays and milestones, then what follows is painful :
If you spend, let’s say, 6 days total with your parents every year, then you only have 60 to 90 days in average left with them.
I read that first in Sahil Bloom’s excellent newsletter. This killed me.
Then this morning, listening to a mind-blowing podcast episode from Mel Robbins.
So what do we do with this ?
We choose to reprioritize.
Well, this is what I’m choosing to do.
Last Sunday, my retired parents were flying away for 2 months and I did not go visit them before (they live 100 km from Paris, where I live).
So I jumped in a taxi and met them for a quick coffee at the airport.
Passing years make me sad.
I’ve realized there’s little time left (truly spent) with my parents.
As soon as they come back, I’ve decided to visit more often, at least a few times a month.
